Cost saving printing solution from HSA Systems reduces stock and lead-time for the medical technology company, Contura.
At HSA Systems we tailor solutions to our customers’ needs and desires. Contura needed a solution enabling them to meet international regulations, reduce stock of packaging and reduce lead-time of customer orders.
Contura is a Danish medical technology company which specialises in the development and commercialisation of soft tissue fillers. They sell the products worldwide and in order to comply with international regulations, they must mark the outer packaging of their products with country specific data in addition to the product label.
So far, the cartons used for the outer packaging have been pre-printed with country specific data by subcontractors, but with an increasing demand worldwide, the delivery time of pre-printed cartons became unsatisfactory and resulted in a demand for an ever increasing stock of cartons at Contura's facilities.
By investing in its own print system, Contura would be able to simplify its processes by printing country specific data directly on the outer packaging at its facility.
As managing director Lars Tolle says: "We always look for solutions based on the philosophy, keep it simple. Having our own printer, avoids printing from a subcontractor and printing ourselves also gives us significant cost savings."
We always look for solutions based on the philosophy, keep it simple. Having our own printer, avoids printing from a subcontractor and printing ourselves also gives us significant cost savings.
HSA Systems provided Contura with a tailormade complete print system with an HSAJET® MTHP4 MiniTouch controller, 3-pen F-type printhead, and a UV lamp mounted on a conveyor belt.
For the printing of country specific data Contura uses the HSAJET® UC5011si UV LED curable ink, which provides a very dark image even at low dpi, cures at high speed (up to 30m/min) and is ideal for glossy surfaces like the cartons Contura uses for the outer packaging.
Crucial for success is that HSA Systems listened and understood our needs, designed and built in accordance with our needs. Last but not least, printers - incl. UV lamp and conveyor belt, were very competitive in price.
For managing director Lars Tolle, the solution from HSA Systems has contributed to an increase in efficiency by speeding up the processing of orders and reducing delivery time to customers:
“We can now mark cartons to individual countries’ requirements and do it on customers’ orders and ship the same day. And stock is reduced significantly. The machine design is compact and flexible, and the HSA Systems software is simple and gives us maximum flexibility. It is easy to operate and requires minimum training”, says Lars Tolle and continues: “Crucial for success is that HSA Systems listened and understood our needs, designed and built in accordance with our needs. Last but not least, printers - incl. UV lamp and conveyor belt, were very competitive in price”.
